Cranial osteopathy is a very gentle form of treatment relating to very subtle shape changes, called the involuntary motion, that rhythmically occur throughout the entire body. These shape changes can be palpated and worked with anywhere on the body but as the skull is a good place to feel and work with them the term "Cranial Osteopathy" has gained popularity.

If there are stresses or strains anywhere in the tissues they will interrupt this rhythmical shape change and a cranial osteopath will apply very gentle adjustments to release these strains and help the body to engage its innate ability to heal itself.

As the treatment is non-invasive cranial osteopathy can be applied in situations where a patient is in very acute pain where otherwise even very gentle structural osteopathic treatment may not be tolerated.
